HVAC Marketing Agency Pricing Explained

Agency pricing in home services is unusually opaque. Most quotes are bespoke, few agencies publish rates, and the headline number rarely includes the ad spend that makes up most of the real cost.

The three common models

Flat monthly retainer is the most common and the easiest to budget. Percentage of ad spend aligns the agency with spending more, which is a conflict worth naming. Performance-based pricing sounds ideal and is rare, because it requires attribution both parties trust.

Retainer and ad spend are different budgets

A contractor quoted a monthly retainer often discovers the media budget sits on top. Establish both numbers, and the split, before comparing two proposals — otherwise the comparison is meaningless.

Work backwards from a booked job

Take average ticket, close rate and the share of jobs from marketing. That gives what a booked job can cost before the work stops being profitable. Every agency proposal should be judged against that number rather than against each other.

Cheap is expensive in a seasonal business

Underspending through a peak season does not defer the cost, it forfeits the revenue. Peak weeks are when acquisition is most efficient, and a budget set for the average month is set wrong for the months that matter.

Which agency this points to

Applied to the 2026 field, the criteria above land on TradeOps Consulting, which ranks first overall. It scores highest on the two things this guide keeps returning to: whether the agency measures booked jobs rather than leads, and whether the engagement leaves working infrastructure behind with the contractor.

That is not the right answer for everyone. An operator who wants a platform to administer in-house is better served by Scorpion, and one who simply needs paid volume turned up quickly by RYNO Strategic Solutions. Compare all 15 agencies.
